Lotus Moon

This past June the first Susan Seddon Boulet Fellowship Award was presented to a graduating artist from the Department of Arts and Consciousness at John F. Kennedy University. The award was for $800 and went to the student who best conveyed the deep spirituality and symbolism that is present in Susan's work. Consistent with the philosophy of the school the artists had to submit slides and an artists statement to apply for the award. A panel of three judges then decided the recipient.

Susan's philosophy of art resonates with spirit of the Arts and Consciousness program which emphasizes "personal spiritual experience as the foundation for truly significant artwork."

From their website:
The Department of Arts and Consciousness offers a unique fine arts curriculum based upon the integration of personal growth and creative expression. Students are supported in the process of artistic development and are able to deepen their understanding of the relationship between art, inner awareness, community and culture. The department is dedicated to the creation of a new paradigm in which artists are fully engaged with the world around them. Students, faculty and staff share a common vision in which art is about authenticity, not fashion.

Janet Seddon & Sas Colby worked with Susan to create this wonderful opportunity for young artists. They have printed an edition of fifty etchings from an original zinc plate donated by Susan's estate. The image, which is called "Lotus Moon" is an early example of Susan's exploration of mythological subject matter. It is beautifully printed on Arches Buff paper by Harvey Eldon, master printer at Graphic Impressions in Taos, New Mexico. From 1992 to 1996 Susan worked with Harvey at the studio. Many of her later works, (the monotypes) were begun there.

The prints are available for a tax deductible donation of $300 to the Fellowship.
